Rod Tompkins

Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica, Song Writer

Picked up the guitar at age 11, raised in a home where music played constantly—from the Rat Pack and Elvis to the sounds that ultimately shaped his path: the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Yardbirds. Grounded in rock, blues, country, and Americana, his songwriting is driven from a lifetime of lived experience. His songs are built on real stories and the raw emotions of life’s highs and lows. With a road-worn sound and an honest, unpolished edge, his music reflects the grit, heart, and resilience found in the spaces between the miles driven by real-life stories and the emotional pull of life’s ups and downs. After years of performing in bands, including a classic rock band, and a 25-year break devoted to family life, music returned as a true calling, leading to the release of multiple CDs. He is now a founding member of Auburn Ravine Revival, a key player in the vibrant Auburn music scene, and the songwriter behind the band’s debut album, marking a new chapter in his live music performances.

Music has been a lifelong passion for me, rooted in my earliest memories of strumming guitar chords alongside my three older sisters, who are also musicians. I've played in a classic rock band throughout my high school years and beyond, exploring the joy of performance and collaboration in the vibrant Auburn music scene. Now retired, I embrace this time as an opportunity to dive even deeper into my musical journey, sharing my love for guitar and the power of music through live music performances.

Growing up in the Bible Belt of Indiana, I began singing in church and discovered my calling through voice lessons. My exposure to the Auburn music scene expanded in high school, leading me to Nashville after graduation to pursue a music career. While working as a nanny, I sang in studios as a backup vocalist, fully immersed in the life of a musician. I often dreamt of performing in a classic rock band, inspired by the legends of the genre.

After several years, I devoted myself to being a wife and mother, raising three successful children and enjoying my role as a grandmother. Recently, music called me back when I joined a Pink Floyd cover band, reigniting my passion for live music performances, where I love connecting with audiences.

Outside of music, I am a life coach passionate about meditation, yoga, and holistic living. I live by the quote: “Remember who you were, before the world told you who to be,” which guides both my music and my life.

From the moment I first heard Iron Butterfly in '68 and experienced that unforgettable drum solo, I was hooked on music. I started my journey as a drummer 25 years ago in the Auburn/Sacramento areas before eventually making the switch to bass guitar, where I found my true passion.

I've had the privilege of performing in tribute bands dedicated to The Beatles and The Who, and have explored a diverse range of genres such as classic rock, blues, country, and original compositions. Now, as a member of the Auburn Ravine Revival, I’m excited to collaborate with songwriter Rod Tompkins on new original pieces that showcase a unique style with catchy lyrics, contributing to the vibrant Auburn music scene.

Bass playing is my heart and soul, and I thrive on finding that perfect groove in every song during our live music performances, making each track resonate with a signature sound.

My musical journey began in middle school with a rock band and a Dixieland group. In the early '70s, I played in glitter/hard rock bands like Sgt. Rocks and Excalibur, touring Canada before moving to Los Angeles, where I became part of the vibrant Auburn music scene. During the '80s, I was part of Urban Action, which later transformed into The Motions, collaborating with artists like Micki Steele. I also played with The Skirtz and formed Lost Avenue, a creative band in the '90s known for its live music performances. Later, I embraced new sounds with The Zonebinders and played with Restheration, concluding with The Nu-Kat Boys alongside Freddie Moore, enjoying years of fulfilling music.
